The Stork Theory

Excerpt #31 from my book, Religion, An Obstacle to Human Progress

If we are going to teach ‘creation science’ as an alternative to evolution then we should also teach the stork theory as an alternative to biological reproduction.

Stork Theory

“What evangelical Christians and fundamentalists of other faiths should recognize is that science is not atheistic or anti-religious. It simply rejects supernatural explanations for natural phenomena. As one philosopher noted: Science is no more atheistic than plumbing.” (From an article by Robyn Blumner, St. Petersburg Times)

“Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarch of increasing certainty. Facts are the world’s data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don’t go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein’s theory of gravitation replaced Newton’s in this century, but apples didn’t suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape-like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin’s proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered.” – Stephen Jay Gould, Science and Creationism
