Cheating on Memorized Bible Verses

Excerpt #68 from my book, Religion, An Obstacle to Human Progress

An Associated Press article reported that in Austin, Texas, a church pastor and his twin brother were charged with severely beating an 11-year-old boy as punishment for cheating on memorized Bible verses.

According to police, the 22-year-old pastor beat the boy for an hour while the brother held him down.

In the hospital where the boy was treated, a nurse told investigators that his kidneys had failed and he required a blood transfusion.

The pastor and his brother were charged with felony injury to a child, punishable by up to life in prison.

THOSE WHO KNOW THE LEAST DEMONSTRATE IT.

In a 17-page document, “Doctrinal Note on Some Questions Regarding the Participation of Catholics in Political Life,” approved by Pope John Paul II, the Vatican outlined its own legislative agenda.

It exhorted Roman Catholic politicians worldwide to oppose laws that permit abortion, gay marriage, mercy killing, and scientific work that involves human embryos, and to be guided by “non-negotiable ethical teachings” that no Christian can ignore.

What or who gives these people the authority to outline our laws?

The answer is that they give it to themselves.

Priests and priestesses invented themselves and their authority.
