RELIGION

Failure of Journalists and Intellectuals

Excerpt #34 from my book, Religion, An Obstacle to Human Progress

The fact of evolution is proven beyond reasonable doubt.

“To claim equal time for creation science in biology classes is about as sensible as to claim equal time for the flat-earth theory in astronomy classes. Or, as someone has pointed out, you might as well claim equal time in sex education classes for the stork theory. It is absolutely safe to say that if you meet somebody who claims not to believe in evolution, that person is ignorant, stupid or insane.” – Richard Dawkins, professor for the Public Understanding of Science at Oxford University

Stork Theory

Tepid journalists and intellectuals often preface their religious critiques with disclaimers that they don’t intend to mock anyone’s beliefs.

After all, as Kant noted, matters of faith cannot be proved or disproved; they belong in a separate realm.

This angle lets religion off the hook.

When it is clear that religious beliefs are myths, superstitions, and fabrications, they should without hesitation be exposed as such.

The failure of journalists and intellectuals to criticize the world of religion objectively is a disservice to humanity and life itself that serves to halt human progression.

Christianity is the most ridiculous, the most absurd, and bloody religion that has ever infected the world. – Voltaire
